March 15th, 2021 Update
Dear Friends for Equity,
We have some exciting updates to share with you. Interest in our group and upcoming information session is growing! We expect faculty working with the AHS Voices for Equity Group to attend our March 23rd info session along with students from this group. We are highly encouraged by the growing support and the community coming together to make equity work a priority in our schools!
As a reminder, tomorrow, Tuesday, March 16th our letter will be read into public record at the Board of Education meeting scheduled for 7pm. Please see the zoom link and agenda by clicking here should you wish to attend.
Our March 23rd Friends for Equity info session is coming up soon! We’d love for you to be there! If you haven’t already, please let me know if you wish to attend by replying to this email and I’ll be sure to send you the zoom link before the event.
It’s worth mentioning that there are certain legal restrictions around the Avon Board of Education's ability to meet with the public. It will be important to remember that while we invited Avon BOE members to our March 23rd information session, whomever chooses to attend will be doing so as individual Avon residents who are interested in hearing what is on the minds of the Avon community. We may not refer to the residents who are members of the Avon BOE as “The Board of Education” during the event.
With that said, any questions during the March 23rd info session should be directed to the Friends for Equity team. There will be an opportunity for Q&A during the meeting. If you have specific questions in mind now, it would be helpful to receive them in advance to help us prepare. Please feel free to email me with your questions or concerns anytime before the March 23rd meeting.
Lastly, please join our NEW Friends for Equity in Avon Schools Facebook group! We’ll be using it as a platform to send out information, promote events, and build community. Feel free to add your Avon friends/family who may be interested in hearing about us. If you’re not a Facebook fan, don’t fret! We’ll still be utilizing email to do the same and a website is coming soon!
